HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners and employees of Bound to Stay Bound, Inc., in Jacksonville on the occasion of the company's 90th anniversary in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound came into existence on January 20, 1920, when Lawrence D. Sibert and William Suhy created the New Method Book Bindery, Inc.; within a year of the company's inception, Sibert and Suhy installed power machinery and hired new employees to keep up with the company's robust growth; in 1924, the company began buying new books from publishers and re-binding them for use in public libraries and schools; and

WHEREAS, In 1934, William Suhy retired and sold his interest in the New Method Book Bindery to the Sibert family; in 1937, the late Robert F. Sibert joined the company to help his father manage the business; in August of 1978, the third generation of the Sibert family, Robert L. Sibert, entered the business, eventually becoming President in 1992; and

WHEREAS, In the spring of 1953, after careful studies of the re-binding and pre-binding businesses, the Sibert family decided to separate the departments; on December 31, 1953, a new corporation, Hertzberg-New Method, Inc., was formed to take over the re-binding of 3 companies, New Method in Jacksonville, Monastery Hill Binder in Chicago, and Hertzberg Craftsmen Bindery in Des Moines, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, In August of 1959, Bound to Stay Bound completed the construction of its present 107,000-square foot facility, which was dedicated on December 3, 1959; 8 additions have been made to the facility, most recently in December of 1995; and

WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound currently employs over 225 people and boasts a selection of over 17,000 titles to choose from; and

WHEREAS, The owners and employees of Bound to Stay Bound serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the owners and employees of Bound to Stay Bound, Inc., on the occasion of the company's 90th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bound to Stay Bound President Robert L. Sibert as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
