| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On February 11, 2009, former Governor Rod | 3 |
| Blagojevich was a guest on the Don Wade and Roma Morning Show | 4 |
| on WLS 890 AM; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Rod Blagojevich, during the interview, claimed on | 6 |
| the air that a legislative leader approached Blagojevich and | 7 |
| requested that Blagojevich hire a legislative secretary who was | 8 |
| having an extramarital affair with a legislator, because the | 9 |
| legislator's wife wanted the secretary fired; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Blagojevich claimed that finding a job for the | 11 |
| secretary would, according to a tape of the interview, "keep | 12 |
| that guy happy and, you know, then hope that they might work | 13 |
| with us on some issues"; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The request that Blagojevich hire someone not | 15 |
| based on merit or need, but rather to satisfy a legislator, a | 16 |
| request that would result in a legislator or legislators then | 17 |
| working with the Governor "on some issues", would appear to | 18 |
| constitute an attempt at pay to play; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, State law prohibits public officials from trading | 20 |
| official acts for services; and

| WHEREAS, The people of the State of Illinois expect their | 2 |
| elected officials to follow State law and work to root out | 3 |
| corruption; therefore, be it
| 4 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 5 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 6 |
| the House urges the office of the Sangamon County State's | 7 |
| Attorney to immediately begin an inquiry or investigation to | 8 |
| determine, based on Rod Blagojevich's claims, if any State laws | 9 |
| were violated, and if any legislator or legislators, together | 10 |
| or alone, sought to trade their services in exchange for | 11 |
| Governor Rod Blagojevich hiring a legislator's secretary; and | 12 |
| be it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 |
| delivered to the Sangamon County State's Attorney.
