HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Grant S. Wegner on the occasion of his retirement as a Circuit Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois and to congratulate him on his new position as counsel to the firm of Mahoney, Silverman, and Cross; and

WHEREAS, Grant Wegner earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Northern Illinois University in 1974 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1977; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from law school, Grant Wegner served in a private law practice and as a part-time prosecutor in Kendall County; and

WHEREAS, In June of 1986, Grant Wegner was appointed to serve as an Associate Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois; in November of 1990, he was elected to serve as a Circuit Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit, where he remained until his retirement on September 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, From 1998 to 2002, Grant Wegner served as a Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit; he was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve on its Mentoring Committee from 1997 until his retirement; the Illinois Supreme Court also appointed him to serve on its Automation and Technology Committee for 7 years, 4 of which as the committee's chairman; and

WHEREAS, Grant Wegner has served as a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., since 2002; he has also served on a variety of other judicial and community boards; and

WHEREAS, Grant Wegner has been an active member in the Boy Scouts, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout; he has previously been a member of the Executive Board and currently serves on the Advisory Board for Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Grant Wegner is well known by his peers for his architectural skills, particularly in futuristic courthouse design, and his love of the Green Bay Packers; and

WHEREAS, Grant Wegner currently serves as a member of the appellate practice, mediation, and litigation group of Mahoney, Silverman, and Cross; he also plans to teach at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he will surely share his great legal wisdom with a new generation of aspiring lawyers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Grant S. Wegner on the occasion of his retirement, congratulate him on his new position as Counsel to the firm of Mahoney, Silverman, and Cross, and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Grant Wegner as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
