HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, J.C. Shultz, the FlagSource was founded in 1920
3 and is an Illinois manufacturer of a full line of flags and
4 banners; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen became President and Chief
6 Executive Officer of J.C. Shultz, the FlagSource in 1990, and
7 in that capacity is the only woman president of manufacturers
8 of flags and banners in the United States; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Janice Christiansen, the
10 Batavia, Illinois based company trademarked the brand name
11 FlagSource which is recognized in the industry as having the
12 highest quality products and customer service; she is also
13 responsible for the company becoming a Woman certified WBE and
14 ISO9001/2000 registered; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Under her presidency, the company has proudly
16 serviced the nation with United States flags during Desert
17 Storm in 1991, delivered a large contract for 127,000 United
18 States flags for the Veterans Administration for veterans
19 families in 2000, and after the terrorist attacks on September
20 11, 2001, the company manufactured United States flags 24 hours
21 a day, 7 days a week, to meet the greatest demand for United
22 States flags ever experienced in the history of our country;

1 and
 
2     WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen has received the George
3 Washington Award for excellence in her industry in 2004, the
4 LUCI award for Women in Business in 1998, and the Manufacturing
5 Counts award from IIT and Chicago Manufacturing Center in 1999,
6 and moreover, Janice Christiansen is (or has been a member) of
7 the Executive Club of Chicago as well as many trade and
8 industry associations and as a 14-year member of TEC/Vistage, a
9 worldwide CEO group; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen has served or is serving on
11 several boards (many as the first woman) including the Valley
12 Industrial Association, the Illinois Manufacturers’
13 Association, the St. Charles and Batavia Chambers of Commerce,
14 and the Red Cross; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen will assume the Chairmanship
16 of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association on January 1, 2010
17 and will be the first woman to hold this position in the
18 116-year history of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association;
19 therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 congratulate Janice Christiansen upon the occasion of her

1 election as the first woman to hold the position of Chair of
2 the Board of Directors of the Illinois Manufacturers'
3 Association; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, We recognize the growing role of women in
5 manufacturing in Illinois and their important contributions to
6 the fabric of life in Illinois; and be it further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to Janice Christiansen at the Annual Luncheon of the
9 Illinois Manufacturers' Association on December 4, 2009 in
10 Chicago.
