HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Police Chief Donald E. Bennett of Plainfield on the occasion of his retirement from the Plainfield Police Department after 24 years with the Department and a total of 42 years of dedicated service in law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Donald E. Bennett was born in Milledgeville, Illinois on October 16, 1945, and served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967; after being honorably discharged from the military, Chief Bennett married Patricia Taubert on July 26, 1969; the couple has 2 children, Heather and Jennifer (Aaron), and 3 grandchildren, Ian, Alaina, and Halle; and

WHEREAS, Chief Bennett received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Metropolitan College in Denver, Colorado in 1977; in 1998, he earned his master's degree in criminal justice from Western Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, In 1983, Chief Bennett attended the 134th Session of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia; he also attended the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command from 1993 to 1994 and the Illinois Law Enforcement Executive Institute's Executive Management Program in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Chief Bennett is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police; he is an active member of the Police Chiefs Association of Will County, serving as the organization's President in 2000; he is also a member of the DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association and the Kendall County Chiefs of Police; and

WHEREAS, Chief Bennett has served as the Treasurer of the Western Will County Communications Center and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System since the inception of both organizations; he has also served as the coordinator of Plainfield's Emergency Management Agency since 1985; and

WHEREAS, Chief Bennett was named the Plainfield Village Employee of the Year in 1996; he was also the recipient of the School District 202 Coordination of Administration and Parents Groups for Educational Efficiency Recognition Award in 1999 for his leadership and service to the Plainfield community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Police Chief Donald E. Bennett of Plainfield on the occasion of his 42 years of dedicated service in law enforcement and community leadership for the people of Plainfield, the State of Illinois, and the United States of America and wish him the best in his retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Donald E. Bennett and his wife, Patricia Bennett, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
