HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the people of the Village of Addison on the 125th anniversary of Village incorporation; and

WHEREAS, The area of Addison was settled in 1833 by Hezekiah Dunklee and Mason Smith, establishing the region known as Dunklee's Grove; the Village of Addison was formally incorporated as a municipality on October 6, 1884 in the Circuit Court of DuPage County and Henry Bushels was elected the first Village President the same day; and

WHEREAS, The first land uses in the area included the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (the mother church of present-day St. Paul Lutheran Church, the oldest church in Addison), a public school, the teacher's seminary (today, Concordia University in River Forest), the German orphan home known as Kinderheim (the site of the present-day Village Hall), and many early farms; and

WHEREAS, In 2000 a state-of-the-art Village Hall was built on the site of the former Kinderheim at 1 Friendship Plaza; other buildings include the Police Department, the Public Library, and the offices of DuPage High School District 88; and

WHEREAS, Addison is home to the fourth largest industrial park in the State of Illinois and the largest in DuPage County; and

WHEREAS, Addison is home to DeVry University, the Technology Center of DuPage, a College of DuPage regional center, and the Cambridge College of Nursing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the people of the Village of Addison on the 125th anniversary of Village incorporation and wish them continued success and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
