HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4 League of Women Voters of McLean County on the 75th anniversary
5 of the organization; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of McLean County was
7 formed on November 24, 1933 and a celebration will be held on
8 September 22, 2009 to commemorate the anniversary; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of McLean County was
10 formed by members of the Florence Fifer Bohrer Club, a group of
11 women who supported Illinois' first female State Senator
12 Florence Fifer Bohrer and her legislative service; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The League is a nonpartisan political
14 organization that encourages informed and active participation
15 in government, works to increase understanding of major public
16 policy issues, and influences public policy through education
17 and advocacy; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The League encourages citizens to become informed
19 voters through registration drives, meetings with the
20 candidates, and Voters Guide publications; and

1     WHEREAS, The League studies all sides of government issues
2 to determine its position on those issues, at the local, State,
3 and federal levels; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The League works through its position on various
5 topics and issues, and then works to influence government
6 action on those important issues; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate the members of the League of Women Voters of
10 McLean County and wish them the best in their future endeavors;
11 and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the League of Women Voters of McLean County as a
14 symbol of our respect and esteem.
