HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois
4 Army National Guard Sergeant Gerrick D. Smith of Sullivan, who
5 passed away on July 28, 2009 in Herat, Afghanistan; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Sgt. Gerrick Smith was born on February 14, 1990
7 in Decatur; he was the son of Marilyn Smith and David Jones;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sgt. Gerrick Smith was a 2008 graduate of Sullivan
10 High School, where he participated in football, soccer, track,
11 and the Sullivan Singers; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Gerrick joined the Illinois Army National Guard in
13 his junior year of high school; he was mobilized for active
14 duty in October of 2008; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Sgt. Gerrick Smith was a member of the Church of
16 Christ and the Sullivan Boy Scout Troop #39; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Sgt. Gerrick Smith is survived by his mother and
18 father, Marilyn Smith and David Jones; his sister, Seeley
19 Smith; his maternal grandparents, Tom and Mary Smith; his
20 paternal grandparents, Dale and Sharon Jones; his

1 half-brother, Eric Jones; his nephew; his several aunts and
2 uncles; and his many friends; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Sgt. Gerrick Smith's patriotism and courage will
4 be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
5 and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
9 Illinois Army National Guard Sergeant Gerrick D. Smith; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Sgt. Gerrick Smith as an expression
13 of our sympathy.
