HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Laura Harms of the Chicago Bandits Women's Softball Team on her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Laura was born on February 26, 1982; she graduated from Bradley Bourbonnais High School in 2000 and from Bradley University in 2004; she was a two-time, first-team All-American at Kankakee Community College; and named Bradley University's Most Outstanding female athlete in 2004; and

WHEREAS, While attending Bradley University she started every game in her two-year span as a Brave where she was a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection; she compiled a career batting average of .353, which ranks second overall in school history, while her 135 hits during her tenure at Bradley is the most for any Brave during a two-year span; and

WHEREAS, In 2005 she scored the first run in Chicago Bandit history; and

WHEREAS, In 2008 she completed her fourth season with the Chicago Bandits and is an original member of the team since their formation in 2005; she hit .234 with 26 hits, 14 runs, and 8 RBI in 111 at-bats and added 2 doubles and 2 home runs to her stat book; in addition, she walked three times with five stolen bases and slugged .306 with a .261 on-base-percentage; and

WHEREAS, Laura works at Oak Athletic Development in Kankakee, doing private softball lessons three days a week and working as a sports performance coach the other three; and

WHEREAS, Laura is supported in her endeavors by her family, including her mother, Cathy along with Robert; her father, Keith Harms; and her brother, Tony; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Laura Harms and wish her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Laura Harms as a symbol of our sincere respect.
