HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives of citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Father Jack Farry, Pastor of Saint Andrew Parish in Chicago, made plans to retire on June 6, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Father Farry attended Saint Sabina Grammar School in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, Brooklyn Preparatory Seminary in New York, St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, and was ordained a priest on April 29, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Father Farry began his career at Saint Bernard Parish in Englewood, where he worked until 1969 when he became the Catholic Community of Englewood Coordinator, a job in which he excelled; he left in 1975 to work with the Team Ministry at Saint Bernard's, which was renamed Saint Benedict the African in 2001; and

WHEREAS, In 1988, Father Farry left Saint Bernard's to become Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish until 2000; while serving at St. Thomas', Father Farry was also an integral member of the Hyde Park Inter-Faith Council; he served as Chaplain to all the local hospitals; he spearheaded preservation efforts at St. Thomas', a national historic landmark; he was active in the life of the students at St. Thomas' and was a constant fixture in the school, teaching religious life lessons to all grades; and

WHEREAS, Father Farry moved on from Saint Thomas' to become Pastor at Saint Andrew Parish, where he has remained until his retirement in June; and

WHEREAS, Father Farry's rhetorical and spiritual gifts have always made him the celebrant of choice at funerals and weddings; and

WHEREAS, Father Farry has inspired people throughout his career to simply be good people, and he has shown an admirable lack of bias in his preaching as he is able to reach both Chicago White Sox fans on the South Side and Chicago Cubs fans up North; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Father Jack Farry on his retirement and wish him continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Father Jack Farry as a sign of our affection, our gratitude, and our respect.
