HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The government urges residents to seek shelter in a safe place during severe weather and natural disasters, including recent storms and flooding; and

WHEREAS, Electricians of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) brave these hazardous conditions, working to restore power and protect the public from the threats posed by severe weather, such as severed power lines; and

WHEREAS, Electrical power is one of the most indispensable services Illinoisans rely on in their day-to-day life and is particularly vital to the success of disaster recovery efforts; and

WHEREAS, IBEW electricians frequently work in perilous conditions to restore power and resolve potentially life-threatening situations, providing emergency workers with safer conditions for rescue attempts and speeding up disaster recovery efforts; and

WHEREAS, IBEW electricians deserve respect and appreciation for the immense risks they take while serving Illinois communities during severe weather and times of crisis; and

WHEREAS, Southern Illinois was ravaged by a series of severe storms in May of 2009; calamity was avoided in part due to the diligent and, in some instances, heroic conduct of the members of IBEW Locals 9, 51, 196, 309, 649, and 702; their diligence and hard work have ensured the safety and comfort of thousands of southern Illinoisans; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 9, 51, 196, 309, 649, and 702 for their heroic efforts in restoring power and order to the citizens of Illinois in dangerous conditions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
