| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, In accordance with House Resolution 510, offered | 3 |
| by Representative Ron Stephens during the 94th General | 4 |
| Assembly, it has been fitting that each year in observance of | 5 |
| Memorial Day that the Illinois House of Representatives has | 6 |
| continued the established memorial tradition of honoring our | 7 |
| fallen brothers and sisters by reading an annual list of all of | 8 |
| the names of those American soldiers, sailors, airman, and | 9 |
| marines from the State of Illinois that have given the ultimate | 10 |
| sacrifice in the preceding year since the previous tribute; | 11 |
| therefore, be it
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 13 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that on | 14 |
| May 26, 2009, the Illinois House of Representatives shall read | 15 |
| the names of all of the soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines | 16 |
| from each of the branches of the Unites States and Illinois | 17 |
| military reserve and guard units, who have given their lives in | 18 |
| the line of duty during the year since the last tribute; and be | 19 |
| it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House shall, as has become | 21 |
| tradition, preface the tributary reading of names of those | 22 |
| fallen heroes with the reciting of a quote from President | 23 |
| Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: "The world will little |

| note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never | 2 |
| forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to | 3 |
| be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought | 4 |
| here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be | 5 |
| dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from | 6 |
| these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for | 7 |
| which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here | 8 |
| highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, | 9 |
| that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, | 10 |
| and that government of the people, by the people, for the | 11 |
| people, shall not perish from the earth."; and be it further | 12 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution and a copy of the | 13 |
| ceremonial honor roll and program of the May 26, 2009 reading | 14 |
| of names be presented to the families of those fallen heroes.
