HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Betty Canaday of Springfield, who passed away on May 5, 2009; and

WHEREAS, She was born the daughter of James and Lucille Fernandez Foster on November 15, 1923, in Springfield; she married Melvin H. Canaday in Springfield on November 21, 1941; and

WHEREAS, She attended Feitshans High School; she was first employed at S.S. Kresege as a clerk, then at Taft Restaurant as a waitress, and then at Denney's Restaurant as a hostess before becoming a homemaker; and

WHEREAS, She was an avid bingo player and was a member of a bunco club for 30 plus years; she was of the Protestant Faith; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; and by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Betty Canaday is survived by two daughters, Sandra England and Linda (husband, Frank) Sklenka; her sister, Ruth Campbell; her grandchildren, Chas. Brent England, Cindy (husband, Anthony) Rosa, Terry (wife, Crystal) England, Kevin (wife, Kate) England, Dennis Sklenka, and Bradley (wife Kara) Sklenka; and her great-grandchildren, Zachary Moller, Amanda England, Ryan England, Melany England, Anna England, William England, Samuel Tyler Sklenka, and Austin and Edgar Kelly; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Betty Canaday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Betty Canaday as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
