HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Maine West High School students first entered the new building in 1959, the second high school to serve the citizens of Maine Township; and

WHEREAS, Maine Township High School District 207 also includes Maine East High School and Maine South High School; Maine West is located in the city of Des Plaines and was formally dedicated on November 8, 1959; and

WHEREAS, Maine West High School employs 175 teachers; in 2002 the school received U.S. News and World Report's Award for "Outstanding High School," one of only fifty schools across the nation to receive this honor; and

WHEREAS, The current school superintendent is Dr. Joel Morris; the principal is Dr. Audrey Haugan; and the assistant principal is Dave Berendt; and

WHEREAS, The athletic nickname of the school is the Warriors and the school colors are columbia blue, gold, and white; and

WHEREAS, The anniversary celebration will begin after the new school year begins in late August of 2009; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate everyone who has been a part of Maine West High School and its history on this joyous occasion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Joel Morris as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
