HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate John McNary, Regional Office of Education #11 Superintendent (encompassing Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, and Shelby Counties), on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, John McNary is a graduate of Marshall High School, attended Dartmouth College, and received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Education degrees from Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, He has served as Regional Superintendent since 1994 and will retire on June 30, 2009; he was Assistant Regional Superintendent from 1985 to 1994; from 1983 to 1985 he served as Assistant Principal of Clinton High School; from 1977 to 1983 he served as Assistant Principal of Paris High School; and from 1968 to 1977 he taught government, economics, and sociology at Paris High School, in addition to many other coaching and administrative positions throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McNary is a member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa, the National Education Association, the Illinois Principal's Association, the National Historic Society, the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendent of Schools, and the American Association of Educational Service Agencies; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Edgar County Overall Economic Development Committee (1990), Chairman of the City of Paris Strategic Planning Committee for the Prevention of Substance Abuse (1990-1993), Coach for the Paris Little League (1987-1989) and Senior Division (1990-1992), and a member of the Edgar County Positive Youth Development Committee (1986); in addition, he has served as a member of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, Clinton (1985), the Hangar Board, Paris (1978-1980), the International Association of Lions' Clubs, the Eastern Illinois University (E.I.) Club and Alumni Organization, and as a member of the Steering Committee for the Development of EdPlex (City of Paris); and

WHEREAS, He is a recipient of the Illinois Education Association and National Education Association Region VII "Mike Hindman Special Friend to Education" Award and the "Dean's Award for Service" from Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, He plans on spending his retirement, along with his wife, Constance, visiting their children, Christopher and Erin, and spending time with their grandchild, Evan; in addition, Mr. McNary will find time to play golf and travel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John McNary and wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John McNary as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
