HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Keith A. Ranney on the occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Bloomington Fire Department on May 1, 2009 after 30 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Keith Ranney began his service with the Bloomington Fire Department on April 16, 1979; he was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant on July 14, 1986, followed by a promotion to Captain on November 4, 1989; he then continued his steady ascent through the department's ranks, becoming Training Officer on August 12, 1992 and Assistant Chief on May 3, 1995; on April 4, 1998, he was appointed to serve as the department's Chief, where he remained until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Keith Ranney also served as a Firefighter/EMT, a Fire Inspector, an Arson Investigator, and an Aircraft Firefighter Rescue Man during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, Keith Ranney earned his associate's degree in Fire Sciences from Illinois Central College, his bachelor's degree in Fire Service Administration from Western Illinois University, and his master's degree in Management & Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University; he is also a graduate of Leadership McLean County; and

WHEREAS, Keith Ranney is a member of the McLean County Disaster Council, having served as the council's exercise chair and president, among other positions; he is a Homeland Security Region 11 Co-Chair; he is a member of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, the McLean County EMS Task Force, and the McLean County Communications Committee; he is also a member of the McLean County Fire Chiefs Association, the Central Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the International Fire Chiefs Association, and the Illinois Society of Fire Service Instructors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Keith A. Ranney on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Keith Ranney as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
