HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Itasca Mayor Claudia "Gigi" Gruber on her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Gruber has served the Village of Itasca since May of 1997; and

WHEREAS, During her time as Mayor she has seen many changes in the community, including overseeing the building of the award winning Municipal Complex, designated one of the "150 Great Places in Illinois" by the American Institute of Architects; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she spearheaded the Dine Itasca program, supporting restaurants in the Village and the Hire Itasca program, assisting Itasca residents as they sought and found employment with the community; and

WHEREAS, She served as Co-chair of the Western O'Hare Corridor Implementation Team and the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission; she led the initiative to have the Village designated as an "International Safe Community" by the National Safety Council and the World Health Organization; she created and instituted the Village of Itasca Oktoberfest; and she stood up against the Illinois Department of Transportation and the expansion of Irving Park Road, creating ICARE (Itasca Citizens Against Road Expansion) in response; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Gruber received the Governor's Home Town Award, recognizing the Itasca Citizen's Volunteer Program and national awards for the Village's annual National Night Out Program; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mayor Gruber and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Claudia "Gigi" Gruber as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
