HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Margit C. Bourelle on the occasion of her 80th birthday on May 5, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Margit Bourelle was born on May 5, 1929 to Swedish immigrants Ida Carlson and Gustav Carlson; she was raised on the northwest side of Chicago; she attended McPherson Grammar School and Amundsen High School; at age 14, while attending Amundsen High School, she started working at a bakery in her neighborhood, working there until she graduated from Amundsen in 1947; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Margit Bourelle began working full time for the United States Department of the Treasury as a secretary; between 1949 and 1952, while working full-time, she belonged to the Four Hundred Club at the Aragon Ballroom, where she taught ballroom dancing two nights a week; during this time, she met her future husband, Berwyn Bourelle; they fell in love and were married on August 30, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Margit Bourelle and her husband started their lives together in a one bedroom apartment at 5543 N. Marmora for 4 years, until their first son Franklin was born in 1956; the couple then moved to a 2-bedroom apartment at 5807 Elston Avenue where, 2 years later, they were blessed with twin girls Doreen and Marlene; the family resided on Elston Avenue for 10 years until August of 1967, when the couple purchased their first home, a 4-bedroom brick bungalow on 5837 Marmora Avenue; and

WHEREAS, Margit Bourelle is the loving grandmother of Alicia, Angela, Marena, Valerie, Tatianna, Bryanna, and Serena; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Margit C. Bourelle on the occasion of her 80th birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Margit Bourelle as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
