HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norman Grimsley on
4 the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of Aroma Park; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Norman Grimsley was born on March 3, 1942 in
6 Fairbury; he married Pam on March 8, 1964 in Chatsworth;
7 together, they have two children and four grandchildren; he
8 graduated from Cullom High School and attended college at
9 Kankakee Community College and Normal College (now Illinois
10 State University); and
 
11     WHEREAS, Norman Grimsley served in the National Guard,
12 starting in high school; he also served in the United States
13 Army as a dog handler for the Military Police from 1961 to
14 1965, where he achieved the rank of Corporal; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Norman Grimsley was elected to serve as Mayor of
16 Aroma Park in 1978 and has been in office for all but four
17 years since; as Mayor, he was responsible for the creation of
18 Aroma Park's sewer, increasing the village's size, and numerous
19 road improvements; during his tenure, the village acquired
20 Riggs Grove in 2004 and began the Lowe Road Project in 2006 and
21 the construction of the River Run subdivision in 2005; the
22 village also began selling water to Aqua in 2000 and began

1 implementation of the River Valley Metro Mass Transit District;
2 and
 
3     WHEREAS, Norman Grimsley has been a member of numerous
4 community organizations; he is a member of the Rotary Club and
5 served as the club's President; he is a member of the Elks and
6 served as the club's President; he was also the recipient of
7 the Elks' citizen of the year award; he is a member of the 911
8 and KARMA Boards; he is a past president of the PTA at Kankakee
9 High School; he has also served as a volunteer fireman and has
10 performed volunteer work for School District 111; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Norman Grimsley serves as a model of hard work,
12 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
13 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 congratulate Norman Grimsley on the occasion of his retirement
17 and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it
18 further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Norman Grimsley as a symbol of our esteem and
21 respect.
