HOUSE RESOLUTION

2    WHEREAS, The blond and statuesque Sybille Fritzsche, our
3own Nordic goddess, was an iconic role model for Lab School
4mothers during the years she graced our neighborhood; and

5    WHEREAS, Sybille's decision to go to law school as an adult
6while her children were young served as a different and
7possibly even finer role model for Hyde Park mothers; and

8    WHEREAS, At the University of Chicago Law School she was
9one of my husband's favorite students; and

10    WHEREAS, Sybille's work for the Illinois chapter of the
11American Civil Liberties Union, from the late 1960s through
121974 broke ground in the areas of reproductive rights,
13religious liberty, free speech, gender discrimination, and
14employment law; and

15    WHEREAS, Sybille, barely out of law school, served as lead
16attorney in the case of Doe V. Scott, a pre-Roe v. Wade
17decision which established that the federal right to privacy
18protects a woman's right to choose abortion; and

19    WHEREAS, She laid the legal groundwork for the successful
20challenge to a Chicago public college preparatory school that

2lifted, required successful women applicants to earn higher
3scores than their male counterparts; and

4    WHEREAS, Sybille later served with distinction as
5executive director of the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil
6Rights under the Law; and

7    WHEREAS, Sybille's incisive mind and extraordinary
8constitutional vision provided a strong intellectual framework
9for her legal work on behalf of women, the poor, and racial
10minorities; and

11    WHEREAS, Her friends and neighbors, as well as all the
12people of Illinois, were sorry to lose her charm and her
13talents when she and Hellmut moved to Arizona; and

14    WHEREAS, This is the year Sybille celebrates her 80th
15birthday; therefore, be it

16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
