HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Daniel W. Hynes was first elected as Illinois' State Comptroller in 1998; since then, he has given 12 years of exemplary public service to the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes has been an exceptionally capable steward of State finances and has been a leading voice for fiscal responsibility and accountability of State tax dollars; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes has promoted transparency in government; he has been a leading advocate in creating Illinois' first Rainy Day Fund and has worked diligently for budgetary and fiscal reforms in State government; and

WHEREAS, Under Comptroller Hynes' leadership, the Comptroller's Office has endeavored to make the Office more productive and cost efficient through significantly reducing personnel, increasing State debt collection efforts, streamlining local government reporting, and initiating consumer protection efforts within the cemetery care industry; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes has successfully fought for more comprehensive ethics laws and signed an Executive Order imposing such policies in his own office, all while working for passage of a statewide ban on "pay-to-play" politics; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes has acted as a fiscal watchdog in the interest of State taxpayers, including his refusal to pay for flu vaccines that the State had failed to procure in accordance with State law; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes has led efforts to obtain State funding for lifesaving stem cell research, initiated laws to prevent overtime pay losses for as many as 375,000 Illinois workers, and administered an executive order suspending payments to contractors who do not comply with Illinois' Prevailing Wage Act; and

WHEREAS, Comptroller Hynes and his wife, Dr. Christina Kerger Hynes, live in Chicago with their 3 fine sons, Charlie, Liam, and Finn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our thanks and appreciation to Daniel W. Hynes for his service to the citizens and taxpayers of Illinois and wish him success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Daniel W. Hynes as an expression of our respect and esteem.
