HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague,
4Illinois State Representative Jay Hoffman, for his years of
5dedicated service to the people of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jay Hoffman was born on November 6, 1961 in
7Highland; he earned his bachelor's degree in finance from
8Illinois State University in 1983 and graduated from the Saint
9Louis University School of Law in 1986; and
 
10    WHEREAS, A proud father, Representative Hoffman and his
11wife, Laurie, are the parents of their wonderful daughters,
12Emily and Katelyn; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Hoffman was first elected to serve
14as State Representative in 1991; he has served the people of
15the Metro East with dedication and distinction ever since; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Among the many areas where Representative Hoffman
17has helped improve the quality of life in the Metro East, his
18efforts to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in
19transportation, road, and infrastructure investment have been
20extraordinarily successful; and

1    WHEREAS, As Chairman of the Transportation and Motor
2Vehicles Committee, Representative Hoffman successfully
3secured funding to expand Illinois Routes 64, 157, 159, and
4255, and led the fight for the expansion of Metro-Link; he also
5fought to advance vital repair work on the McKinley Bridge and
6construction of a new bridge across the Mississippi River; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Hoffman is a tireless champion for
8Illinois working families and has stood at the forefront of
9efforts to increase the minimum wage, improve workplace safety,
10create a stronger local economy that provides good paying jobs
11for his constituents, and spearhead economic development
12projects that put tens of thousands of people to work; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Hoffman used his legal knowledge
14to make Illinois a safer place by working with law enforcement
15officials to make it easier for them to track, catch, and
16prosecute dangerous criminals; he was one of the first
17legislators to acknowledge and address the serious problem of
18violence in schools by sponsoring legislation to keep kids safe
19in Illinois classrooms; and
 
20    WHEREAS, As a father, Representative Hoffman has always
21understood the value of a good education; he consistently
22brought home more money for local schools and worked to ensure
23that the increased funding that was allocated for education was

1going directly to the classroom; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Above all else, Representative Hoffman is an
3effective legislator who works with both sides of the aisle to
4get results for his constituents and improve the State of
5Illinois; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8congratulate and thank State Representative Jay Hoffman for his
9many years of service to the people of Illinois and wish him
10success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to State Representative Jay Hoffman as a symbol of
13the esteem and respect we have for our colleague and friend.
