HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ariel Michalek of Oswego East High School on becoming the Cross Country State Champion on November 6, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Ariel won the Class 3A State title during the Illinois High School Association girls cross country finals; she, along with 4 other runners, set up a lead pack within the first mile of the race and kept trading the No. 1 spot throughout the three-mile, looping course; and

WHEREAS, With less than 800 yards to go, she broke away from another runner from Hinsdale Central to finish in a time of 16:32, the second fastest girls time ever logged on the Peoria course at Detweiller Park; she became the first Wolves athlete to win a State championship; and

WHEREAS, She is a 3-time State qualifier, a 3-time conference champion, and an Oswego East High School record holder; and

WHEREAS, She has recorded the fastest time in 3A history since it changed to a 3 mile race; and

WHEREAS, She was selected the Beacon News Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2010; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ariel Michalek and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ariel Michalek as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
