HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John
4James Rafter, Retired Captain of the Chicago Police Department,
5of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Edison Park, Chicago, who
6recently passed away; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He was the son of the late James and Mary, nee
8Sheridan, Rafter, from the counties Mayo and Sligo, Ireland;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, He and his wife raised their children in Edison
11Park, Chicago, where they lived for 32 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, During his years as a police officer, he attained
13the rank of Captain and position of Assistant Deputy
14Superintendent in charge of Internal Affairs; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After he retired, they moved to Spring Hill,
16Florida, where he enjoyed playing golf and traveling; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John James Rafter was the beloved husband of Fern,
18nee LeGere, for 59 years; the loving father of Martin (Roberta
19Werneske), Peggy (Richard) Thompson, James (Loretta), William
20(Diane), and Sheila (Matthew) Sledz; the grandfather of

1Jennifer, and the late Michael Rafter, Ryan, Scott, Sean, and
2Megan Thompson, Daniel and Lauren Rafter, and Bridget and
3Eileen Sledz; the brother of Bridget (James) McNamara; the
4brother-in-law of Frank LeGere; and the uncle of many nieces
5and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John
9James Rafter; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of John James Rafter as a symbol of our
12sincere sympathy.
