HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Grocery Merchandising Association (GMA) was formed in 2003 as a result of a merger between two well-known associations, the Grocery Manufacturers Sales Executives Club (GMSE) and the Merchandising Executives Club (MEC); and

WHEREAS, The Grocery Manufacturers Sales Executives Club was founded in 1910 to provide a forum for all members of the food industry to discuss and encourage sound, ethical, and sustainable business practices; and

WHEREAS, The Merchandising Executives Club was founded in 1953 to provide innovative marketing and merchandising programs and services for all members of the food distribution channel; and

WHEREAS, After nearly 50 years as two separate organizations, the Grocery Manufacturers Sales Executives Club (GMSE) and the Merchandising Executives Club (MEC) merged into one dynamic organization with roots dating back to 1910; and

WHEREAS, The Grocery Merchandising Association membership is comprised of a diverse group of executives representing a wide range of consumer product companies, retailers, wholesalers, food brokers, as well as companies supporting the food industry through marketing, advertising, and promotion; and

WHEREAS, The Grocery Merchandising Association hosts many outings and events designed to bring all members of the industry closer together for the betterment and benefit of the food distribution system and consumers; and

WHEREAS, The Grocery Merchandising Association sponsors special events that help raise awareness of and financial support for many worthwhile causes, including the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and the Illinois Food Retailers Association Education Foundation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Grocery Merchandising Association on their 100th anniversary and wish the membership continued success in all their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Grocery Merchandising Association as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
