HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Channahon Fire Protection District on the occasion of the department's 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The first legal meeting of the Channahon Volunteer Fire Department was held on August 17, 1950; the officers of the department were President Robert Lamping, Vice President John Westerveld, Treasurer Stewart Dirst, and Secretary Harry Byers; and

WHEREAS, On August 31, 1950, the Channahon Volunteer Fire Department held the first election to pick a fire chief and his aides; at the election, Steve Rittof was elected to serve as Fire Chief, Everett McCoy was elected to serve as First Assistant, L. W. Piercy was elected to serve as Second Assistant, Maurice Frederick was elected to serve as Captain, and Charles Crawford was elected to serve as Lieutenant; in 1960, the Channahon Fire Protection District was officially formed; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Channahon Fire Protection District is comprised of a full time Fire Chief, Administrative Assistant, 10 career firefighters/paramedics, 8 contract firefighter/paramedics, and 31 volunteers; the fire district covers over 40 square miles and serves approximately 8,500 residents with its 2 manned fire houses, 3 Advanced Life Support ambulances, 3 engines, and numerous other pieces of emergency response equipment; the fire district also has a Dive team; and

WHEREAS, The Channahon Fire Protection District is part of the Orange CART Team and has Fire Investigators that work with Mutual Aid Division 15; the district is also a member of the Chief Shabbona Firefighter's Association; and

WHEREAS, The Channahon Fire Protection District averages over 1,000 Emergency Medical, Fire, Mutual Aid, Hazmat, and Water Emergency calls per year; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Channahon Fire Protection District serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that congratulate the members of the Channahon Fire Protection District on the occasion of the district's 50th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Channahon Fire Protection District as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
