HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, This year, millions of school children around the
3world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance
4Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the
5skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and
6violence; and
 
7    WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles; the
8program has proven so successful that it is now being
9implemented in 75% of our nation's school districts and in more
10than 43 countries around the world; and
 
11    WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of
12classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten
13through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live
14productive drug and violence-free lives; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Illinois D.A.R.E. recently held a statewide
16design-a-poster contest with a drug-free theme; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Two fifth-grade students out of numerous entries
18from across the State of Illinois were declared the winners of
19the contest, Makenzie S. Williams from Galesburg and Nolan Byrd
20from Joliet; and

1    WHEREAS, All the D.A.R.E. Students across the State, along
2with the D.A.R.E. officers, are to be commended for choosing to
3be drug free; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate Makenzie S. Williams and Nolan Byrd on the
7occasion of winning the Illinois D.A.R.E. design-a-poster
8contest and wish them continued success in the future; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11presented to Makenzie S. Williams and Nolan Byrd as a symbol of
12our respect and esteem.
