HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Eunice
4Borovik, who passed away on June 9, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eunice Borovik and her late husband, Jerry, owned
6and operated Bee Drug Store in the Cragin neighborhood and
7Borovik Drug Company in Portage Park; the Borovik Drug Company
8was opened in 1922 at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and
9Irving Park Road by Jerry's father and uncle; Jerry and Eunice
10took over the store in 1961, where it remained an independent
11community pharmacy until their retirement in 1996; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Eunice Borovik became active in the Portage Park
13Chamber of Commerce in the 1970s; she was elected president of
14the organization in 1979 and held the volunteer position for 21
15years; during her long tenure, she was instrumental in the
16growth of the Chamber from a small association of local
17merchants into a significant and influential business
18organization; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Eunice Borovik selflessly devoted her time and
20energy to the betterment of Portage Park and Irving Park; she
21was a tireless advocate for streetscape improvements in the
22early 1980s and worked with the Neighborhood Relations Division

1of the Chicago Police Department to reduce crime in her
2community; she also attended many civic functions, served on
3numerous local boards, and spoke at various public events; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Eunice Borovik is survived by her sons, George
5(Jolanta) and Andrew (Catherine); her grandsons, Jed and Caleb;
6her numerous nieces and nephews; and her many friends;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Eunice
11Borovik; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Eunice Borovik as an expression of
14our sympathy.
