HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John T. Hooker on
4the occasion of winning the Circle of Friends Award from the
5Chicago State University (CSU) Foundation in recognition of his
6outstanding commitment to the success of CSU students; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Hooker was born on November 25, 1948, in
8Chicago; he grew up in Chicago's Lawndale community and
9attended Theodore Hertzel Elementary School, Hess Upper Grade
10Center, and Farragut High School; while at Hess, he was
11inspired by civil rights activist Al Raby and teacher Warner
12Sanders; after graduating from Farragut in 1966, he got married
13and was hired by Commonwealth Edison that same year; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Hooker began his career at ComEd in the
15company mailroom, where he learned as much as possible about
16the company; he steadily ascended through the ranks, from clerk
17typist to time keeper to material clerk; by 1974, he was
18promoted to the position of human relations representative; in
191976, he began working in the marketing department, where he
20was promoted to director of marketing for Bolingbrook and the
21western suburbs in 1984; in 1987, he became the ComEd liaison
22to the late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and the Chicago
23City Hall; in 1990, he earned his bachelor's degree from

1Chicago State University and helped found the Exelon African
2American Members Association (EAAMA); during this time, he
3served as area manager for ComEd in the western Chicago suburbs
4and director of external affairs; in 1995, he was named
5director of governmental affairs, which enabled him to
6influence the passage of the Illinois Consumer Choice Law of
71997; he was then promoted to vice president of property
8management for Exelon Energy Delivery; in 2000, he became an
9officer of ComEd; in 2004, he was appointed senior vice
10president of Commonwealth Edison; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Hooker was a 1994 participant in Leadership
12Greater Chicago; he serves on several boards, including the
13Chicago State University Foundation, the Peoples Consumer
14Cooperative, the Safer Foundation, Junior Achievement, and the
15African American Initiative; he is a member of the American
16Association of Blacks in Energy and Chicago University's
17Business Hall of Fame Committee; he is also involved in the
18Chicago Public School's Youth Motivation program; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Hooker and his loving wife, Kim, live in
20Chicago; the couple has 3 adult children; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Hooker serves as a model of hard work,
22integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
23Illinois; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate John T. Hooker on the occasion of winning the
4Circle of Friends Award and wish him continued success and
5happiness in the future; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to John Hooker as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
