HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize and honor the several significant anniversaries of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2010; and

WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity was originally founded at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1919 as the Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity; Pi Mu Epsilon became the Rho Chapter of Beta Kappa Fraternity in 1926, and subsequently became the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity in 1942; the chapter has owned three chapter houses in Bloomington, including the locations of 915 North Main (1922), 814 North Main (1960), and 404 East Beecher (1980); and

WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and its predecessor organizations have been an important part of the Illinois Wesleyan University community for the past 91 years; and

WHEREAS, Alumni from the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and its predecessor organizations include noteworthy leaders in many fields, including the arts, business, education, government, healthcare, law, military, and many others; and

WHEREAS, The Creed of Theta Chi which identifies the ideals of the fraternity states: "I believe in Theta Chi, its traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by resolute men, ennobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken its place among the educational institutions of America as a promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture, and a builder of character. It inspires true friendship; teaches Truth, Temperance, and Tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and extends a helping hand to all who seek it. I believe in the primacy of Alma Mater; in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in its influence and its accomplishments and I shall do all in my power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving God, my country, and my fellow man."; and

WHEREAS, The members and alumni of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity attempt to perpetuate the fraternity's ideals, including support for their alma mater, in their daily lives; and

WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is celebrating the 50th anniversary in 2010 of the opening of its chapter house at 814 North Main and the 30th anniversary of the opening of its chapter house at 404 East Beecher; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and honor the 91st anniversary of the original founding of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and the 50th and 30th anniversaries of its two most recent chapter houses; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we commend all Beta Rho of Theta Chi brothers, past and present, for their bond of friendship, common ideals and beliefs, and service to their communities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our best wishes for the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity's continued success and growth; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we designate October 9, 2010 as Beta Rho of Theta Chi Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the President of Illinois Wesleyan University, the Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., the President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, and the President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni Association, Inc.
