HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In June of 2010, the international Association of
3 Fundraising Professionals (AFP), with more than 30,000 members
4 and 206 chapters worldwide, will celebrate 50 years of
5 advancing ethical and effective fundraising; and
 
6     WHEREAS, AFP was founded in 1960; for 5 decades, AFP has
7 worked to advance philanthropy and ethical fundraising and
8 support charities around the world that provide critical
9 services to their communities, including more than 1 million
10 charities in the United States; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Fundraising and philanthropic efforts have helped
12 drive meaningful advances in health, science, social services,
13 and countless other fields that have improved the lives of
14 millions of people in every conceivable way; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Annual charitable donations in the United States
16 has risen from approximately $10 billion in 1960 to over $300
17 billion today; and
 
18     WHEREAS, AFP continues to promote ethical fundraising
19 through its Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, which is
20 now used by thousands of charities around the world as the
21 foundation of their ethical fundraising work; and

1     WHEREAS, AFP works to increase donor confidence and public
2 education about wise giving through The Donor Bill of Rights,
3 The Accountable Nonprofit, and other resources; therefore, be
4 it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate the Association of Fundraising Professionals on
8 the occasion of the association's 50th anniversary and applaud
9 AFP's efforts to cultivate philanthropy and encourage
10 charitable giving while promoting the highest ethical
11 standards in the fundraising profession; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That we call upon the people of Illinois to
13 promote the spirit of philanthropy and observe the occasion by
14 making a donation to a charitable organization; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a
18 symbol of our esteem and respect.
