HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, staff, faculty, and alumni of Kaskaskia College as they celebrate the school's 70th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Centralia Junior College was created in 1940 and later became Kaskaskia College in 1966 through the passage of the Community College Act of 1965; and

WHEREAS, Kaskaskia College holds the distinction of being the first community college organized under the Community College Act of 1965; Kaskaskia College District 501 was formed on July 1, 1966; and

WHEREAS, The college has grown over the years to over 12,000 students; the college has a main campus west of Centralia, a branch campus in Vandalia, and educational centers in Greenville, Nashville, Salem, and Trenton; and

WHEREAS, Kaskaskia College employs over 400 full-time and part-time personnel; over the past nine years, the college has experienced a 62% increase in credit hours, the largest increase of any higher education institution in Illinois over that time period; and

WHEREAS, Over the years Kaskaskia College has provided an excellent educational opportunity for students to become better equipped for life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate everyone involved in the 70th anniversary of Kaskaskia College and wish them continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James Underwood, President of Kaskaskia College, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
