HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Women's Bar Association of Illinois has been advocating for the advancement of women and women attorneys for nearly a century; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois has been to promote and foster, advance and protect the interests and welfare of women lawyers; to encourage a spirit of friendship and mutual helpfulness among its members; to aid in the enactment of legislation for the common good and the administration of justice; and to promote and protect the interests and rights of women; and

WHEREAS, The Women's Bar Association of Illinois will install its incoming officers and directors at its 96th Annual Dinner on June 3, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Kathryn Gallanis Matern, an attorney at the law firm of Bruce Farrel Dorn and Associates in Chicago, will be installed as president during this celebrated event, succeeding the outgoing president, the Honorable Patrice Ball Reed, associate judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Kathryn Gallanis Matern is a former Assistant State's Attorney in the Cook County Felony Trial Division; she is the First Vice President of the Chicago Republican Women's Network and also is an active volunteer in various other charitable and civic organizations including the Junior League of Chicago, the New Trier Citizen's League, and the New Trier Republican Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Kathryn Gallanis Matern has received numerous awards and accolades, including being recognized in 2001 in Today's Chicago Woman magazine's "100 Women Making A Difference"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kathryn Gallanis Matern and the Women's Bar Association of Illinois and extend our best wishes for their future success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kathryn Gallanis Matern as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
