HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leland J.
4 Glazebrook of Sullivan, who passed away on March 14, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook was born on April 21, 1921, in
6 Spring Garden; he was the son of Andy H. and Marilee Story
7 Glazebrook; he married Evalyn Moore on March 3, 1972, in
8 Fisher; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook attended the University of
10 Illinois and farmed in the Champaign County area; he worked as
11 an insurance agent for Country Companies from 1955 to 1968; he
12 served as the Farm Director for WLBH Radio in Mattoon from 1968
13 to 1975; he organized the Illinois Corn-Soybean Network in 1973
14 and was heard on 25 radio stations in Illinois and Iowa; he
15 served as the farm director for WDZQ Radio in Decatur and
16 worked at WMCI Radio in Mattoon; he was also the recipient of
17 an honorary FFA State Farmers Degree and served as State FFA
18 President in 1939 and 1940; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In 1976, Leland Glazebrook was elected to the Lake
20 Land College Board of Trustees; after 34 years of service, he
21 was the longest serving trustee in the College's history and
22 one of the longest serving community college trustees in the

1 State of Illinois; he served 4 times as Board Chair and several
2 times as an officer; during his tenure, Lake Land College
3 experienced 135% growth in enrollment and added several new
4 buildings while maintaining a high level of academic quality
5 and a focus on students; he had a major influence in the
6 development of innovative programs at Lake Land College and
7 helped the college develop into a leader in distance education,
8 online course delivery, agriculture programs, and the use of
9 technology; under his leadership, the college opened its first
10 permanent extension center, the Kluthe Center for Higher
11 Education and Technology in Effingham, and the Ag Technology
12 Building; he also chaired the only successful tax referendum in
13 the history of Lake Land College; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook was a member of the Sullivan
15 First Christian Church, the Sullivan Country Club, the Moultrie
16 County Farm Bureau, the National AGRI Marketing Association,
17 the National Association of State Radio Networks, and the
18 Illinois Community College Trustees Association; he also
19 served as a Sullivan Middle School Mentor and was a master
20 gardener who loved working in his garden; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook was the recipient of the Ray
22 Hartstein Trustee Achievement Award from the Illinois
23 Community College Trustees Association in June of 1999 and was
24 nominated for the 2000 American Association of Community

1 College Trustees' Trustee Leadership Award; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook was preceded in death by his
3 parents; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook is survived by his wife; his
5 children, Turk (Judy) Glazebrook, Richard (Carol) Glazebrook,
6 Roger (Sally) Glazebrook, Jim (Teena) Glazebrook, Helen
7 Glazebrook, and Sarah Glazebrook; his stepchildren, Gary
8 (Judy) Fish, Jim (Donna) Fish, Bob Fish, and Peggy Fish; his 20
9 grandchildren; and his 31 great-grandchildren; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Leland Glazebrook will be remembered by all who
11 knew and loved him for his great wisdom and affable nature;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leland
16 J. Glazebrook; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Leland Glazebrook as an expression
19 of our sympathy.
