HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Detective Steven R. Worsham of the Chicago Police Department on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, During his early years, he attended St. Brides Grammar School and graduated from Mt. Carmel, where he excelled on the swimming and water polo teams; he also spent time serving as a lifeguard and mate for the Chicago Park District; and

WHEREAS, He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1980 as a patrolman, Star number 2053, and worked in numerous high crime and high risk areas; he was promoted to Gang Specialist/Detective, where he executed search warrants, wire taps, and participated in numerous raids on Chicago's most violent and notorious street gangs; and

WHEREAS, In October of 1986, he was shot in the line of duty while apprehending a criminal; he was subsequently awarded the Chicago Police Department's "Blue Star" Award; he has also been awarded a Special Commendation, 11 Department Commendations, 29 Honorable Mentions, one Unit Meritorious Performance Award, as well as other awards from the federal government and the Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, He is a well known denizen of the Rainbow Beach Three Wall Handball community and has won several Chicagoland Metro Handball League Championships, as well as volunteering as a little league coach and supporter of St. John Fisher; and

WHEREAS, While working fulltime as a member of the Chicago Police Department, Detective Worsham also completed his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis College, graduating with honors; and

WHEREAS, He is a loyal friend to many, a great family man, and deserves many accolades for his service to his community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Steven Worsham as he retires as a Detective with the Chicago Police Department and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chicago Police Department Detective Steven Worsham as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
