HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor accomplishments in the
4 lives of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason has always held his family as his
6 highest priority, as son, husband, father, and grandfather; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was a member of the Chicago Police
8 Department for 25 years serving as a patrol officer in the
9 Traffic Division until he was promoted to the rank of detective
10 in 1967; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was transferred to Homicide
12 Headquarters in 1979 where he served as city-wide Sex Crimes
13 Coordinator and Analyst until he retired from the Chicago
14 Police Department; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason, along with former Commander
16 Rudolph E. Nimocks, designed, staffed and administered a
17 city-wide Sex Crimes Unit; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason initiated the first detailed sex
19 crimes analysis in the City of Chicago and published
20 comprehensive and analytical reports, tracked crime patterns,

1 participated in training sex crimes detectives, and assisted in
2 the production of a rape prevention film; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was the Chicago Police Department
4 liaison with various citizen groups; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason, has been recognized by the
6 Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA), the
7 Chicago Police Department, and has received numerous Letters of
8 Commendation from many organizations and citizens; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason joined the staff of the South East
10 Chicago Commission as Law Enforcement Coordinator on August 9,
11 1982; he served the Hyde Park-Kenwood community with integrity
12 and dedication, coordinating the efforts of the Chicago Police
13 Department and the University of Chicago Security Department to
14 reduce crime in the community, making it a more desirable place
15 to live, work, and raise a family; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was commended by President Hanna
17 Holborn Gray in 1984 for his extraordinary work as Law
18 Enforcement Coordinator; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was commended by the Office of the
20 State's Attorney on May 30, 1985 for his tremendous job in
21 aiding an 84-year old woman who was the victim of an armed

1 robbery and home invasion; the Assistant State's Attorney said
2 Robert cared for the woman as if she were his own mother; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason accepted an award on March 8, 1986
4 from then-State's Attorney Richard M. Daley for his special
5 efforts regarding a Juvenile Court case; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason assumed the position of Acting
7 Executive Director on June 30, 1989 while maintaining his
8 position of Law Enforcement Coordinator; he "carried out his
9 responsibilities with a quiet effectiveness that one can only
10 admire," stated then-President D. Gale Johnson; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was promoted to Executive Director
12 of the South East Chicago Commission in October of 1990; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason served the Hyde Park-Kenwood
14 community for 28 years with professional, dedicated service,
15 and always exhibited the utmost integrity in everything he did;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason accepted the Hyde Park Historical
18 Society's Marian and Leon Despres Award on February 24, 2007
19 for the South East Chicago Commission and its role in
20 preservation and cultural history in helping promote and create
21 the Kenwood Landmark District; and

1     WHEREAS, Robert C. Mason was honored by the Hyde Park
2 Chamber of Commerce on October 23, 2008 at their 69th Annual
3 Dinner for his on-going work to keep the area strong and
4 vibrant; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Robert C. Mason on his retirement from the South
8 East Chicago Commission and on his lifetime of service to the
9 community; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Robert C. Mason and the South East Chicago
12 Commission as a symbol of our affection, gratitude, and
13 respect.
