HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Adelle J. Swanson on the occasion of her retirement after many years of dedicated service with the Riverdale Public Library District; and

WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1967 and her Masters in Library Science degree from the University of Illinois in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson has had a long and distinguished career in libraries throughout the State; she began her career as a student clerk at the Urbana Free Library in 1962; in 1967, she worked as a graduate assistant in the Education and Social Sciences Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; from 1968 to 1974, she served as Head Librarian at the Flossmoor Public Library; in 1974, she became the Administrative Librarian with Riverdale Public Library District in Riverdale, where she remained until her retirement in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Library Association, the Illinois Library Association, the Joint Advancement of Illinois Libraries, the Library Administrators of Northern Illinois, the South Suburban Library Association, Zone 6, and the Suburban Library System; she is also a member of numerous community organizations, including the Riverdale Chamber of Commerce, the Intergovernmental Group, the Housing Authority and Human Relations Board of Riverdale, Remembering When, the Riverdale Landlords' Association, the Our Savior's (Senior) Apartments Board, the Thornton Township Regional Action Planning Program, the Riverdale Investment Club, the American Cancer Society, United Way, and Business and Professional Women; and

WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson was named the Riverdale Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year in 1982, 1993, and 1997 and Business and Professional Women Woman of the Year in 1980; she was also made a Riverdale Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Member in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Adelle J. Swanson on the occasion of her retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Adelle Swanson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
