HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Freeman
4 "Doc" Martin of Bethany, who passed away on February 14, 2010;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin was born April 27, 1923, in
7 Fredericksburg, Indiana; he was the son of James S. and Myrtle
8 Eaton Martin; he married Alice A. Fifer on November 20, 1942 in
9 New Albany, Indiana; he was a resident of Bethany since 1948;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin worked at Punch Brown Garage and
12 ran the gas truck in Bethany for 40 years; he served as the
13 Marrowbone Township Cemetery Superintendent for 22 years and
14 was actively involved with the daily maintenance of the
15 cemetery; he served as the Assistant Fire Chief for the Bethany
16 Fire Department from 1956 to 1972; he served on the Bethany
17 Village Board from 1955 to 1959; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin was a member of the Cumberland
19 Presbyterian Church in Bethany; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin was preceded in death by his
21 parents; his 5 brothers and an infant brother; his sister; and

1 his grandson-in-law, David Elzy; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin is survived by his wife, Alice; his
3 sons, Don Martin (Mary), Dick Martin (Robbie), Punch Martin
4 (Cheryl); his daughter, Donna Sue Fowler (Mike); his special
5 sister, Virginia Miller; his grandchildren, Scott Martin, Sean
6 Martin, Tara Mitchell, Shelly Freeman, Beth White, Jodi Elzy,
7 Shane Martin, Jason Fowler, and Nikki Wickline; and his 15
8 great-grandchildren; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Freeman Martin will be remembered by all who knew
10 and loved him for always thinking of others, including through
11 his frequent visits to nursing homes and hospitals and his
12 numerous phone calls; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
16 Freeman "Doc" Martin; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Freeman Martin as an expression of
19 our sympathy.
