HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Leon Slovikoski on his retirement as the Village of Bradley Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Leon Slovikoski was born on January 18, 1922 in Bradley; he attended St. Joseph Grade School and Bradley High School; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the first basketball team from his high school to make it to the sweet sixteen tournament; and

WHEREAS, He is a veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Glider Regiment, Fort Bragg North Carolina from April 1943 to August 1945; he married Claire Suprenant in 1947; and

WHEREAS, He entered college under the G.I. Bill in 1947 and graduated in 1949 from Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, He was hired by A.O. Smith in 1950 as an accounting clerk and retired in January 1982 as Plant Controller; he was elected a Trustee for the Village of Bradley in 1967 and re-elected in 1971 and 1975, serving until 1979; during that time, the expansion of the Village Municipal Building took place; in 1982, he was appointed Treasurer for the Village and implemented the computer system for financial procedures during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Slovikoski is retiring on March 31, 2010, after many years of service to the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Leon Slovikoski on his years of service and wish him the best for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Leon Slovikoski as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
