HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Morris (Morrie) Svendsen, a founding member of the Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute, for his hard work, dedication, and years of service; he was a NIPDI Trustee from December 1978 to December 1991; and

WHEREAS, The Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute (NIPDI) was officially formed on December 21, 1978; the first three NIPDI Trustees were Larry Nedrow, Anthony Pintozzi, Sr., and Morris Svendsen; NIPDI was created by the Northeast Illinois Chapter Painting and Decorating Contractors of America in agreement with Painters District Council No. 30; and

WHEREAS, Svendsen Brothers Decorators was started in 1926 in Elgin by Marius Svendsen, Morrie's father; he and his younger brother, Philip, started working summers in their Dad's business when they were teenagers; and

WHEREAS, Morrie graduated from high school, went to college for one year at Northern Illinois University, then was drafted into the Army and spent time in Japan during the Korean War; he returned home from service in 1953 and started getting involved in the management of the family business; his brother, Philip, also returned to the business after his time in the Navy; and

WHEREAS, The two brothers gradually took over the responsibilities for directing the business, and, after more than 50 years in the painting business, Morrie retired in 2002 and closed the business; and

WHEREAS, During the years of Morrie's leadership, Svendsen Brothers Decorators grew into one of the prominent painting companies of Northern Illinois; Morrie assumed the role of Secretary-Treasurer for the Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute, and spent countless hours handling all of the clerical and financial responsibilities of the organization; he remained on the Board of Trustees until 1991; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Morris Svendsen for his years of service and dedication to his craft, and wish him all the best for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Morris Svendsen, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
