HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Dean Barrow for his work as the Prime Minister of Belize and welcome him to the State of Illinois during his visit to Waukegan on April 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Prime Minister Barrow entered Belizean politics in 1983; he became the nation's Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1984; and

WHEREAS, For many years, Prime Minister Barrow served as the Leader of the Opposition, a position reserved for the individual who, under the Belizean Constitution, "commands the support of those elected officials who do not support the government"; after the elections on February 7, 2008, Prime Minister Barrow and his United Democratic Party won 25 of the 31 seats in the Belizean House of Representatives; on February 8, 2008, Prime Minister Barrow was designated as the nation's first black Prime Minister; and

WHEREAS, Prime Minister Barrow will be the keynote speaker at the Concerned Belizeans, Inc. Annual Fundraiser at the Bonnie Brook Golf Course in Waukegan on April 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Prime Minister Barrow serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois and the nation of Belize; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Dean Barrow for his work as the Prime Minister of Belize and wish him and the people of Belize success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we welcome Prime Minister Barrow to the State of Illinois during his visit to Waukegan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Prime Minister Dean Barrow as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
