SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
410 ILCS 505/3   from Ch. 31, par. 43

    Amends the Autopsy Act. Provides that an autopsy may only be performed in a hospital or a facility maintained by a coroner. Provides that records shall be retained for as long as other medical records at the place the autopsy is performed. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning public health.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Autopsy Act is amended by changing Section 3
5 as follows:
 
6     (410 ILCS 505/3)  (from Ch. 31, par. 43)
7     Sec. 3. The authorized personnel of a hospital or other
8 qualified personnel selected by a physician may assist a
9 physician performing an autopsy. An autopsy may only be
10 performed in a hospital or a facility maintained by a coroner.
11 All records and documentation, including pathology slides and
12 all examined specimens, shall be retained for as long as other
13 medical records at the place the autopsy is performed.

15     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16 becoming law.
