1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Fire Protection Training Act is
5 amended by changing Section 2 as follows:
 
6     (50 ILCS 740/2)  (from Ch. 85, par. 532)
7     Sec. 2. Definitions. As used in this Act, unless the
8 context requires otherwise:
9     a. Office means the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
10     b. "Local governmental agency" means any local
11 governmental unit or municipal corporation in this State. It
12 does not include the State of Illinois or any office, officer,
13 department, division, bureau, board, commission, or agency of
14 the State except a State controlled university, college, or
15 public community college.
16     c. "School" means any school located within the State of
17 Illinois whether privately or publicly owned which offers a
18 course in fire protection training or related subjects and
19 which has been approved by the Office.
20     d. "Trainee" means a recruit fire fighter required to
21 complete initial minimum basic training requirements at an
22 approved school to be eligible for permanent employment as a
23 fire fighter.

1     e. "Fire protection personnel" and "fire fighter" means any
2 person engaged in fire administration, fire prevention, fire
3 suppression, fire education and arson investigation, including
4 any permanently employed, trainee or volunteer fire fighter,
5 whether or not such person, trainee or volunteer is compensated
6 for all or any fraction of his time.
7     f. "Basic training" and "basic level" shall mean the Basic
8 Operations Firefighter II program as promulgated by the rules
9 and regulations of the Office.

11     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
12 becoming law.
