SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.45 new

Amends the School Code. Provides that the Chicago Board of Education must require schools under the jurisdiction of the Board to (1) limit the service of dessert to students to no more than once per week; (2) provide fresh fruit and vegetables to students on a daily basis; and (3) limit the menu to contain only one item per day that contains cheese. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 34-18.45 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.45 new)

Sec. 34-18.45. School menu requirements; fruits; vegetables; dessert; cheese. The Board must require schools under its jurisdiction to (1) limit the service of dessert to students to no more than once per week; (2) provide fresh fruit and vegetables to students on a daily basis; and (3) limit the menu to contain only one item per day that contains cheese.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
