SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/18c-4902   from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 18c-4902

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that each contract for the transportation of household goods by a common or contract carrier doing business in Illinois must contain an accurate estimate of the total value of the household goods being moved. Requires household goods common or contract carriers doing business in Illinois to provide, at a minimum, insurance or surety coverage equaling 2.5 times the estimated total value of the household goods being moved under the contract. Requires that the common or contract carrier must provide written proof of insurance or surety coverage in that amount to the person whose household goods are being moved. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 18c-4902 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/18c-4902)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 18c-4902)
7     Sec. 18c-4902. Commission to Set Insurance Coverage Limits
8 and Establish Procedures.
9     (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), the The
10 Commission shall prescribe the amounts of insurance or surety
11 coverage required as a minimum, the maximum allowable
12 deductible limits, procedures for the filing and rejection or
13 return of filings, and such other reasonable regulations
14 regarding insurance or surety coverage as are necessary to
15 protect the travelling and shipping or receiving public.
16     (b) Each contract for the transportation of household goods
17 by a common or contract carrier doing business in Illinois must
18 contain an accurate estimate of the total value of the
19 household goods being moved. The minimum amount of insurance or
20 surety coverage for all contracts for the transportation of
21 household goods by a household goods common or contract carrier
22 doing business in Illinois shall be at least 2.5 times the
23 estimated total value of the household goods being moved under

1 the contract. The common or contract carrier must provide
2 written proof of insurance or surety coverage in that amount to
3 the person whose household goods are being moved by the common
4 or contract carrier.
