SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new

Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Provides that the Department may make grants to employees of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a professional degree or certification. Requires that an employee's application for a grant be approved by the facility at which he or she is employed. Provides that, as a condition of receiving a grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the degree or certification program. Effective immediately.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is amended by adding Section 2.08 as follows:

(20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new)

Sec. 2.08. Education grants for employees of veterans medical facilities. The Department may make grants to employees of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a professional degree or certification. The Department shall prescribe the form and manner of applying for a grant. An employee's application for a grant must be approved by the facility at which he or she is employed before it may be approved by the Department. As a condition of receiving a grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the degree or certification program.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
