SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-684 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Emergency Medical Services license plates to licensed Emergency Medical Technicians. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged a fee of $25 at original issuance and at renewal. Provides that $15 of the additional original issuance fee and $23 the renewal fee shall be deposited into the EMS Assistance Fund. Provides that $10 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-684 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-684 new)
7     Sec. 3-684. Emergency Medical Services license plate.
8     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in
9 the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue, to a
10 licensed Emergency Medical Technician, special registration
11 plates designated to be Emergency Medical Services license
12 plates. The special plates issued under this Section shall be
13 affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division, motor
14 vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000
15 pounds, recreational vehicles as defined in Section 1-169 of
16 this Code and subject to the staggered registration system.
17 Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to the
18 multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19 Code.
20     (b) The design and color of the plates shall be wholly
21 within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The Secretary
22 of State may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23 issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with

1 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
2 designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
3 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary of State shall
4 prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412.
5     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $25 fee for original
6 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. Of
7 this additional fee, $10 shall be deposited into the Secretary
8 of State Special License Plate Fund and $15 shall be deposited
9 into the EMS Assistance Fund. For each registration renewal
10 period, a $25 fee, in addition to the appropriate registration
11 fee, shall be charged. Of this fee, $2 shall be deposited into
12 the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund and $23 shall
13 be deposited into the EMS Assistance Fund.
14     (d) All money deposited in the EMS Assistance Fund under
15 this Section shall be used for the purposes specified in
16 Section 3.220 of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems
17 Act.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
