SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the passing of our esteemed colleague, former Illinois
4 State Senator John J. Nimrod, who passed away on January 4,
5 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, John Joseph Nimrod was born in the Lakeview
7 district of Chicago on May 1, 1922; he was educated in Chicago
8 public schools, and then attended the University of Illinois,
9 the Illinois Institute of Technology, and Northwestern
10 University; he received a Bachelor of Science degree in
11 Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in 1950; and
 
12     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod was engaged in combat in World War
13 II and the Korean Conflict for 6 years, first in Europe and
14 then in the Far East; he graduated first in O.C.S. at Fort
15 Benning, Georgia; for his service, he was awarded 6 Battle
16 Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star, and the
17 Wahrung Korean Medal, the highest award given to a non-Korean
18 civilian; he was honorably discharged from the service at the
19 rank of Captain in 1952; and
 
20     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod was employed as a consultant
21 engineer and worked for General Motors and the president of a
22 plastics firm in Barrington; and

1     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod served with pride and distinction
2 as an Illinois State Senator from 1973 to 1983, proudly serving
3 the residents of the 4th Senate District; he served on various
4 important standing committees, serving as the Minority
5 Spokesman of the Public Health, Welfare, and Corrections
6 Committee and as a member of the Revenue Committee and the
7 Committee on Labor and Commerce; and
 
8     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod served in numerous government
9 positions, including assistant to the chairman of the Illinois
10 Industrial Commission, Assistant Director in the Illinois
11 Department of Revenue, Assistant to the President of the Cook
12 County Board of Commissioners, Supervisor of Niles Township for
13 8 years, member of the Board of Directors of the Township
14 Officials of Illinois, past President of the State Supervisors
15 Division, the Auditor of Niles Township, past President of the
16 State Auditors Division, past President of the Township
17 Officials of Cook County, and as a Niles Township Republican
18 committeeman; and
 
19     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod served as the Chairman of the UNPO
20 General Assembly in The Hague, Netherlands from 1992 to 2004
21 and as President of the UNPO Foundation USA in Washington, D.C.
22 from 2000 to 2008; he also served as Secretary General of the
23 Assyrian Universal Alliance from 1994 to 2005 and as President

1 of the AUA Foundation from 1999 to 2008; and
 
2     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod was a member of the Chicago
3 Athletic Association, the Y.M.C.A., the Masons, the Shriners,
4 the American Legion, and AMVETS; he was also a Past Director of
5 the Skokie Civil Defense and an Elder in the Presbyterian
6 Church; and
 
7     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod is survived by his wife, Dorothy
8 Ingeborg (Paul) Nimrod; his children, Lizbeth Nimrod, Naomi
9 (Charlie) Dickinson, Joseph John (Lynn), and John Joseph; his
10 grandchildren, Janet (Dickinson) Felton, Anna Dickinson,
11 Loribeth Dickinson, John Paul Nimrod, Joseph Nimrod Jr., and
12 Jack Nimrod; his great-grandchildren, Mya Nimrod, Thomas
13 Nimrod, and Raymond Felton; he was the brother of the late
14 Helen James Schwarten and Susie Badal and the beloved uncle of
15 Ed (Jeannie) James, Ken (Connie) James, Joe (Pat) Nimrod, Dick
16 (Jenne) Nimrod, and Charlotte Wynegar; he was the great uncle
17 of Warren (Amy) James, Jerry (Kitty) James, Ann Harvey and
18 Catherine King, Carl (Caroline) James, Merrily James, Melissa
19 Richardson, Robert (Donna) Badal, and Herb (Carol) Badal; and
 
20     WHEREAS, John J. Nimrod will be remembered by his former
21 colleagues in the Illinois Senate, his former constituents, and
22 his loved ones as an honest, capable, and hard working
23 legislator; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 his family and friends, the passing of our colleague, John
4 Joseph Nimrod; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of John J. Nimrod as an expression of
7 our sympathy.
