SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John W. Mitchell of Decatur, who passed away on November 17, 2008; and

WHEREAS, John W. Mitchell was born July 6, 1924, in Decatur, the son of William and Alberta Mitchell; and

WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army Corp of Engineers in 1942 and released in 1945; and

WHEREAS, John graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1950; he served as Vice President of A&E, an engineering firm in Decatur; John married Angela Edwards in 1951 and had three children, Michele, Bill, and Michael; and

WHEREAS, John was a man of few words, but when he spoke people listened; he was a man of great character and integrity and he will be missed; and

WHEREAS, John W. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angela; his children, Michele (Joe) Kearney; Illinois State Representative Bill Mitchell; and Michael Mitchell; his grandson, Jack Kearney; his brother, Bob Mitchell; and his granddogs, Sophie and Pat Kearney; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John W. Mitchell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John W. Mitchell as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
