SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dr. Lora L. Tyson of Naperville, who
4 passed away on September 1, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Lora Tyson is a native of Iowa; she was one of
6 four daughters whose father worked as a school superintendent
7 in towns in Iowa and Minnesota; she graduated with a bachelor's
8 degree from Wheaton College, where she also met her husband of
9 21 years and the father of her two sons, Rosendo F. Tyson Jr.,
10 who preceded her in death in 1997; and
 
11     WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Dr. Lora Tyson
12 worked for a few years as a teacher at a grade school in
13 Itasca; she then moved with her husband and children in the
14 late 1970s to Kentucky, where she earned a master's in
15 education from the University of Louisville and a doctorate in
16 education from the University of Kentucky; in 1999, she joined
17 the faculty at North Central College, where she also served as
18 chairman of the education department from 2005 to 2007; and
 
19     WHEREAS, As chairman of North Central College's education
20 department, Dr. Lora Tyson focused her energies on improving a
21 section within the North Central College library known as the
22 curriculum resource center; in honor of her work for the

1 curriculum resource center, the center will be renamed the Lora
2 Tyson Curriculum Library; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Dr. Lora Tyson was a member and served as an elder
4 at the River Glen Presbyterian Church in Naperville; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Lora Tyson is survived by her sons, Ian and
6 Brent; her mother, Esther Trail; her sisters, Ruth Anerino,
7 Beth Hale, and Karin Trail-Johnson; and her granddaughter; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dr. Lora Tyson will be remembered by all who knew
9 and loved her as a kind and compassionate role model who
10 believed that civility and empathy were not just words to live
11 by, but words to teach; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 her family and friends, the passing of Dr. Lora L. Tyson; and
15 be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Dr. Lora Tyson as an expression of
18 our sympathy.
